The story
Jerome of Prague was never a priest. He was a layman with master's degrees from Paris, Cologne, Heidelberg, and Prague, and he had copied Wycliffe's books by hand at Oxford before Hus ever read them.
The best account of his death was written the same evening by a secretary to the pope, who wanted him condemned and could not stop admiring him.
The beard on the shirt is the one a Constance chronicler described, grown through a year in a tower. Read the full story.
